How are the oceans becoming more acidic? What are the consequences of this phenomenon? Students will review pH, perform experiments to show that CO2 can dissolve in a liquid and change its pH, and perform a simplified titration to study the mechanisms in which pH can change slowly/drastically. The effects of increased pH in oceans and its effect on wildlife such as shellfish will be discussed as well. (HS-PS1-6, HS-ESS3-6, PS1.B, ESS3.D)
