Event Details

In the Middle School ISAAC program, students have the opportunity to visit our center in East Hanover, New Jersey. Students conduct a series of 3-4 experiments per visit. The experiments run during each visit cover a wide range of topics from STEM fields including chemistry, biotechnology, physics and engineering.

Day D Experiments scheduled to include:

Experiment 1: Tums of pHun Technology makes our lives easier! Students will see how advances in technology can improve the ease, speed, and accuracy in obtaining scientific results by using different techniques to verify the amount of active ingredient in a TUMS tablet.

Experiment 2: Ouch! How Sunscreens Work Students explore the effects of too much UV radiation and the active ingredients in sunscreen. As process engineers, they create a product that protects us from the harmful effects of UV radiation and keep our reefs and oceans safe.

Experiment 3: Renewable Energy As Poser System Engineers, students will explore sources of energy (hydro, solar, or wind) being considered to power a new "green" city? Students will measure energy production from these 3 energy sources.

Experiment 4: Acid + Base = BOOM! Students will act as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials as they investigate materials targeted for disposal and determine the proper means of disposal.

Engineering Challenge: Build a marble run from supplies provided.
